Somewhere along the way
You just knew
When emerald blades with dew held your line of sight
For just a bit longer
When the majestic horizon held your breath for ransom
With just a little more force
Somewhere along the way
You just knew
That conscious thought and sentience
Made you reel
When the Towers went down
When the Earth shook and fires blazed
When mothers laid their sons in fresh graves
When the helpless creature cried for its skin
And the futureless child
Sent a message with the angels
A request for another day
Somewhere along the way
You just knew
That the voices of a thousand thieves
Choked the same desperate plea
That they
Felt the wind blow across their skin
And marveled at the Seven Wonders of the World
Same as the poor man
Somewhere along the way
You just knew
Incessant musings shall never suffice
Heirloom– The Storyteller Magazine (Volume 15, Issue #4, 2010) Find a copy of this publication here.
To live for only fragile things
Is sad, unwise, quite futile.
To chase dead things brings suffering
Not gain, no peace, not even a little.
To win or fight for years to come
Is tiring, quite brutal.
Is there not much more to this?
With weight, with love, eternal?
Sometimes I think to slow down
Means failure and surrender.
That giving up the tangible means
Your hopes and dreams are hindered.
This is not the case at all,
Instead a great investment.
To chase live things which with them bring
Great gain, great peace, transcendence.
